TORONTO FASHION WEEK: EVAN BIDDELL S/S 2013

Evan Biddell took his spring/summer 2013 collection to new extremes, fusing several typically unconnected ideas into one cohesive collection. The overarching jungle theme featured the predictable peacock, leaf, and cat prints - but with coloured velvet details, Asian-inspired motifs, leather fringe, and some of sort comic book/pop culture print (?!?!) thrown into the mix, the looks were a little less leopard-print-overkill and a lot more innovative. And, as usual, Biddell playfully sculpted the garments on the female form, with pieces that looked almost like they were floating rather than hanging off the body! - writing by Bianca Venerayan

    • An maxi dress closes the runway, visually assaulting (in a good or bad way... you can decide) the audience with a plunging neckline and an all-over pop-art print.

    • This simple white dress features a high slit (which in hindsight looks more like a tuck or drape-work) that shows off the pop-art print shorts underneath.

    • The pop-art print of the bodycon dress peeks underneath the long leather jacket.

    • A black leather dress featuring an exposed zipper down the middle and extra long fringe falling from the shoulders.

    • A strapless, gold-embroidered mini dress with a black lace overlay.

    • An asymmetrically-draped black dress with a dark leaf print.

    • A long sleeve version of the opening dress - features a tiger print, leopard print, and a smattering of peacock feathers.

    • An Elizabethan-style dress, notable through its dimensional sleeves and high collar.

    • A strapless dress made entirely out of a multi-coloured velvet, draped loosely and still somehow shows off the female form.

    • A floaty, black, one-shoulder dress with a dark leaf print and a leather jacket with understated fringe details.

    • A jacket that is essentially a gold, sexy, form-fitting version of a Japanese kimono, worn with a black pencil skirt.

    • This black, oversized, satin shift dress has a pop-art print along the bottom.

    • A ruffled taupe dress with olive green velvet florals and a brown leather jacket with understated fringe details.

    • Tiger print, leopard print, and a smattering of peacock feathers help to make the opening look a jaw-dropper.
