THE COLLECTIONS: CARA CHEUNG S/S 2013

Cara Cheung still reigns as the go-to designer for party dresses that ooze playful sex appeal. The Spring/Summer 2013 pieces were decked out with every trick in the book, including prints, texture, colour and cut-outs—at times all at once, executed in a body-conscious silhouette to boot. Cheung's maximalism could get overly chaotic, but her extraordinary detail and craftsmanship makes for an outfit that makes tearing one's eyes away impossible. It isn't everyday fodder, but Cheung's penchant for experimentation and exuberance is a nice reminder as to how fashion shouldn't always be serious business. - writing by Caroline Leung

    • A white satin dress with a body-conscious top and a layered chiffon bottom is sexy, but not overly so.

    • A body-con mini-dress with cut outs in the hem and midriff.

    • A black dress suited for evening partywear. Details such as the cut-outs and chiffon layering makes it interesting.

    • Blue chiffon saves the black and yellow top from bumblebee territory; layered on top of a mini-dress with exposed zippers.

    • A red chiffon layer provides the body-con silhouette with movement. Seen here on a black and white dress with pink panels with geometric detail.

    • Pink and red makes for a playful, girlish aesthetic; depicted here in a mini-dress with fringe and geometric detail.

    • Too much fringe veers the outfit towards ultra-modern grass skirt territory, but the print and geometric detail is a refreshing combination.

    • Leather, neon, printed paneling, and geometric detail thrown into one body-con mini dress.

    • A body-con mini dress with a sky blue satin top, navy fringe, and zebra paneling.

    • A layered, body-con mini-dress, with a zebra-print corset bustier with red leather panels.

    • A strapless black mini-dress with a satin top and printed bottom.

    • A strapless mini-dress, with geometric studding and printed bottom.

    • Lori Siddons Beautiful

    • A fringed, high-collared, printed bustier that's an exclamation of a statement piece.

    • OCCUPATION:

A shade of chartreuse that's more grown up than the neons of seasons past; depicted here in a crop top and matching layered mini-skirt.

    • A blue crop top, paired with a skirt with a vaguely trial print and chiffon layering.
