THE COLLECTIONS: LABEL S/S 2013

Label Clothing hit the runway this week as part of THE COLLECTIONS show ahead of the official Fashion Week kickoff. Accompanied by bright scarlet lips or dusted eyes, these garments seemed toned down from the “mental instability”-inspired pieces from Fall/Winter 2012, offering softer edges, looser fits, and a twist (often literally) on styles on trend. Designers Shawna Robinson and Natalie Sydoruk kept their affinity for darks evident throughout this collection, along with odd punchy print and bold emerald green. Almost sporty, boyfriend-borrowed; a softer side of Label. - writing by Robyn Urback

    • Ending with another punch of emerald green, the Backside dress meets the Invader pant with this last look

    • Shorts that echo the Zephyr top print, the look is bold and lively with this ensemble.

    • Love the girliness of the black Laurel Canyon Dress, paired with the printed Zephyr top underneath

    • This 360 dress marries loose, sporty sleeves with a more fitted silhouette.

    • The Topanga dress in creme, here paired with a black take on the Backside sweater (sans backside)

    • A girly take on a summertime classic, this Manual dress nods to an elongated baseball tee.

    • The Primo dress showcased in a bold emerald green. Form fitting and cut to land just above the knee.

    • The cropped and knotted Peggy Tshirt offers a little femininity to the boyfriend-borrowed 180 shorts.

    • The printed Pool top with open sides lets the Betty dress show off its length

    • The Skip bra made a little more feminine paired with the wrap black Cove skirt.

    • Tomboy-girly, this look pairs a bold green Skip bra with the loose and long 180 shorts and Venice Beach jacket.

    • Here the Locals Only dress is showcased alone, offering its short sleeves, navel twist, and sporty edge.

    • The bold pants perfectly match the lips (inspiration?), while the aptly named backside sweater sports a zip-off backside flare.

    • A punchy print for the Ollie dress.

    • Black on black is an emerging theme in this line, showing up here as the Paradise sweater and Invader pants.

    • This Avla hoodie keeps it rough around the seams

    • The blue romper offers a punch of colour, with the Del Mar top laying subdued underneath.

    • Long and lean, the Manual dress paired with the Grind skirt.

    • These shorts have a bit of an androgynous feel, softened by the cropped, knotted Peggy tee.

    • The Topanga dress. Where’s Cory?

    • My favourite look of the show. The breezy Venice Beach Jacket layered over the twisted Locals Only dress.

    • An elegant shape made casual by flats and fabric.

    • And for you romper fans, a sleeveless, scoop-beck take on a favourite summer trend.

    • Another loose-fitting and casual ensemble, this Del Mar top could easily be plucked off the runway for ready wear.

    • The bold print pool top comes off as casual and cool, allowing just a glimpse of the black skip bra to poke through.

    • This “Gnarly Tshirt Dress” has been cut with bold drop arms. A look that can only be described, of course, as gnarly.

    • Starting with a wrap. Uh, skirt, that is. A pairing that left colour to the makeup and accessories.
